Summary

The City and County of Honolulu, Wastewater Treatment Disposal (WTD), inquired about the cross-platform integration between Rockwell Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Mitsubishi Human Machine Interface (HMI). I tested and integrated the systems with each other and found some restrictions and limitation by the Mitsubishi vendors. Particularly, at the time, there were limitation on the embedded string data attributes that the Mitsubishi HMI can parse from Rockwell's PLC (see slide 15). In addition to the string issue, Mitsubishi also had some limitations on its' platform regarding features of its' alarming GUI that the operators deemed it was essential to their operation.
